Tips for Traveling with Your Wedding Dress!

As a destination wedding planner brides are always concerned about traveling with there wedding dresses whether its in another state or another country. Here are a few tips that may help you avoid stressing-out over how your going to get your dress to your chosen destination safely.

Purchase Priority Boarding:

Purchase priority boarding with your ticket. Why? Depending on the airline, you will board your plane early, without the majority of the cabin. Then, you can find your seat and have your dress be in the closest overhead bin as possible, so you can keep your eye on it!

Use your dress as your carry on:

One thing I definitely wouldn’t do is check your dress, you spent too much money to have it lost in transit, Plus do to really want to trust handing it over to someone you don’t know. We have all seen how they toss our luggage on to the plane. Most airlines allow for a personal item and a carry on item, so use your dress as a carry on item. Make sure you label your garment bag as well.

Ship your dress early:

Shipping your dress is an option but depending on where your traveling to for your destination wedding it could be expensive and even hard for you. Especially if you have a big dress that you believe wont fit in the overhead compartment of the plane. If you decide to do this make sure you use reputable shipping companies like Fed Ex or UPS. Also keep in mind to ship as early as possible and if you are staying at a resort see if its ok for someone who is handling your wedding can keep your dress until you arrive if its scheduled to get there before you.

FYI: DO NOT forget to purchase insurance!

Check with the airlines ahead of time on their Policies for traveling with wedding dresses:

It would be a great idea to check with your airlines on their policies, and recommendations on carrying your wedding dress on your flight. Most airlines are pretty sympathetic when it comes to your wedding dress and getting it to your chosen destination, and will take very good care of you and your dress.

With all that being said, I hope these tips have helped you in deciding how you would like to travel with your wedding dress! and Happy Planning!!!
