Events are supposed to be fun and exciting and if your doing all of the planning, it could take some of the fun and excitement out of it. Because It can become overwhelming and a bit stressful. Good news, it doesn’t have to be! A few things you should think about when you’re planning a wedding or special event: Do you enjoy planning? Are you a good coordinator? How much time do you want to dedicate to the fine details of the event? Do you want to be completely hands on or hands off? When the event is taking place do you want to enjoy it? Overall, the best way to host an event is to understand what you are capable of doing, what your not capable of doing, and do you actually want to do it? Not to mention, do you even have the time? and, most importantly, do you desire to do so. Here are the differences between a wedding/event planner and a wedding/event coordinator to give you a better idea of if you need or want to hire either for your wedding/special event.


Wedding/Event Planners Full-service wedding planners will take care of everything, yes you heard right everything. Whether you want to be hands off, don’t have the time, or are looking for more creativity and support, hiring a planner is your best option. They will oversee your event from start to finish every single detail of your wedding or event. If you want to be hands off this is the best option for you. However, they do keep you in the loop about everything and copied on every email, at least they should do this does not mean you won’t be involved. A planner with still work closely with you to make sure your vision for your wedding or event comes to fruition They will put your ideas into action and turn it into what you envisionEd. As always, your planner will work with you to make sure you stay with in your budget, as well as advise and suggest things to you if need be. They take care of all the nitty-gritty details like catering, entertainment, rentals, etc. This option is best for you to sit back and “enjoy YOUR event” with your friends and family.


Wedding Coordinators - wedding coordinators will execute everything that has already been planned. This is a great option, if you are a good planner, have the time to dedicate to planning, are very creative, and enjoy getting into all the details. Not to be underestimated, coordinators still hold all the knowledge that a planner has, even if you will be handling all of the details. They can help point you in the right direction to help keep you on track with your budget, they can assist you with finding the best services, items (rentals etc.). They also will do a detailed review your timeline and contracts. As your event nears, your coordinator will step in to make sure everything runs smoothly. You’ve already done all the heavy lifting, so take a step back and enjoy your special day!


Even though there are differences in both it really depends on the time you have available, what you want and need done........and basically if you want to do it all yourself or not. Many planners offer a variety of packages based on your needs, and some will customize a package specifically for you!
